Eura's StaffEura Conservation prides itself on the ability and experience of its staff. All of the conservators at Eura have a true love of conservation and work hard to make sure that clients get the best results. As well as conservators, we employ staff who are qualified metalworkers, sculptors, welders, quantity surveyors, paint sprayers and scientists, covering the entire gamut of practical metals conservation. Several members of staff have professional memberships and industry accreditation, which means that you can be confident of a fine standard of work and knowledge. Eura Conservation won the RICS 1999 Building Conservation Award for their work on the Albert Memorial. Key PersonnelRobert TURNER (email) spent the first half of his working life building industrial heat-treatment plant. He was responsible for large projects in Italy, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Australia and the United Kingdom, narrowly missing a tour of duty in the Lebanon as the civil war broke out. In 1984 he joined Naylor Conservation. and his work since has covered all aspects of conservation, although he has concentrated mainly on survey & documentation, project management and financial planning & control. Along with representatives of the National Museum of Denmark and the Fraunhoffer Institute in Germany he was a partner in EC funded research, under the Fifth Framework Programme, to develop new systems of protection for outdoor bronzes. He has been a consultant for the Department of National Heritage, the Irish Government, the Manx Government, British Waterways and English Heritage. He was a founding director of Eura Conservation Ltd. in 1987 and has been closely involved in all major projects as the activities of Eura Conservation and Naylor Conservation have become more integrated. He is an accredited conservator, an expert evaluator for the European Commission (DG Research) and an accreditation assessor for United Kindom Institute for Conservation (UKIC). He is a member of IIC, the Museums Association, the Historical Metallurgy Society and UKIC. Russel TURNER (email), Robert's brother, spent two years with Ironbridge Gorge Museum in the Ceramics Conservation Department before becoming self-employed. For three years he was involved in a wide range of conservation projects with Naylor Conservation, Heritage Tile Conservation, Bath Stained Glass and Ironbridge Gorge Museum. In 1987 Eura Conservation Ltd. was formed as a sister company to Naylor Conservation. Russel's brief was to run Eura Conservation, developing on-site conservation, and servicing the transportation needs of other conservation practices. He has been responsible for providing packing and transportation services for the National Trust, English Heritage, Victoria & Albert Museum, many conservation practices, local authorities and private clients. Major site conservation projects under his control have included the Albert Memorial Investigative Phase, conservation of the collection of lead sculpture in the Staterooms, Kensington Palace and conservation of the outdoor sculpture at Hampton Court Palace. He was site manager for the main contract at the Albert Memorial, site manager at Canada, Australia, South Africa and Devonshire Gates and project director for Gravesend Pier and Crystal Palace Park. He is an accredited conservator, and was a member of the Professional Committee and a past chair of the UKIC Metals Section Committee. He is a Council member and on the board of UKIC’s trading company. Nick MORRIS (email), Eura Conservation's workshop manager, has a BA in mathematics and a diploma in the Conservation of Fine Metals from West Dean College. He worked for seven years in light engineering and fabrication. In 1980 he became self-employed. During this period he worked extensively in conservation with organisations like Naylor Conservation, Ironbridge Conservation, and Heritage Tile Conservation. He joined Eura Conservation in 1988 and since then has specialised in metals conservation. He is a member of UKIC and gained NCCR accreditation in July 1999. He oversees all aspects of conservation for the projects in which he is involved, which includes collection, transport and packing, conservation treatment and documentation. Over the years, his responsibilities have broadened to include some management functions. These include surveying, developing specifications for treatments, preparing estimates, liaising with clients and project management. Simon WARD (email), site manager, came to work for Eura Conservation in May 1996 where he has specialised in site conservation and the packing & transportation of objects. Previously he worked as a high-pressure hydraulics engineer, commissioning and repairing a wide rage of machinery, rising to become workshop manager, before industry changes led to his redundancy. Significant ironwork projects have included: rescuing and cleaning fire-damaged objects in a museum store, investigative work on Ramsey pier, transportation and conservation of navigation buoys for the National Maritime Museum, Hubert Fountain (deputy site manager), St Pancras Gardens (deputy site manager), Gravesend Pier (site manager) and ss Great Britain (site manager). Projects dealing with other metals have included: the lead cupola for Waddesden Manor, on-site conservation and the packing & transportation of various bronzes, including William Wallace (Aberdeen), Sister Dora (Walsall), David Davis (Barry Docks), Cornwall-Lewis (Hereford), removal and re-installation of bronze fountains in Hyde Park and the conservation of Miss Britain III, an aluminium speed boat. Shane (email), is an experienced curator and historical researcher, with experience in writing conservation management reports and condition reports. He is equally at home in undertaking fieldwork, however, and has undertaken a number of maritime and terrestrial archaeological excavations and, through his experience working as a museum curator, has expertise in handling and assessing delicate and precious artefacts. Shane has undergraduate degrees in administration and in ancient history and post graduate degrees in maritime archaeology and museum studies. |
