    Gravesend Pier

Gravesend Town Pier is the oldest surviving cast iron pier in the world, opened in 1834. Working with marine engineers at Mowlem Marine, Eura Conservation treated the historic iron components of the pier (all of the modern additions are being replaced).

Our work involved the dismantling of the ironwork, and transport to our Telford workshops, where each piece was individually cleaned and repainted to protect from further corrosion. Where components were badly damaged, we commissioned LC Jay, to cast replacement iron components. The treated components were transported back to Gravesend for reconstruction.
